St Charles, MO Firewood & Delivery Areas
Saint Charles, the county seat of Saint Charles County in Missouri, United States, had a population of 65,794 at the 2010 census. This makes it the ninth-largest city in Missouri. Located along the Missouri River, Saint Charles is a northwestern suburb of St. Louis. The city was initially founded around 1769 as Les Petites Côtes, meaning “The Little Hills” in French, by Louis Blanchette, a French-Canadian fur trader. At that time, the region was under nominal Spanish control after the Seven Years’ War, making Saint Charles one of Missouri’s oldest cities. The city was an important hub during the early stages of the United States’ westward expansion, serving as a river port and a starting point for the Boone’s Lick Road leading to the Boonslick area.
In its early history, Saint Charles was mainly inhabited by French-speaking settlers from Canada and was noted as the final “civilized” location visited by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804. This expedition was significant in exploring the western lands acquired by the United States through the Louisiana Purchase. Saint Charles also has the distinction of being Missouri’s first state capital, from 1821 to 1826, and is known for the Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne shrine.
